Taufiq Hashmani obtained his Juris Doctor from Osgoode Hall Law School. While at law school, Taufiq was a research assistant for Constitutional Law professor Bruce Ryder, and was selected to participate in the inaugural Anti-Discrimination Intensive Program between Osgoode and the Human Rights Legal Support Centre.
After graduating from law school, Taufiq articled with Heller, Rubel. After completing his articles, Taufiq successfully ran his own firm for five years before merging his practice with Heller, Rubel.
Taufiq’s practice is focused on criminal, quasi-criminal, and regulatory trial and appellate work. Taufiq has appeared at all levels of court in Ontario, successfully defending serious criminal charges ranging from drug trafficking, firearms offences, organized crime, and homicide charges. As part of his practice, Taufiq also routinely represents individuals who have been found Not Criminally Responsible on account of mental health issues before the Ontario Review Board.
In addition to being a member of the Law Society of Ontario, Taufiq is a member of the Criminal Lawyers Association, is on the Litigation Committee for the Canadian Muslim Lawyers Association, and is a founding member of the Ontario Legal Professionals Alliance.
